Apple could be rolling out a Mac Tablet in the first half of 2010, according to widely circulated Wall Street analyst report. Acer Plans Android Smartphone in 2009

Acer plans to introduce a smartphone that uses Google’s Android operating system at the end of 2009. Acer is already planning a number of smartphones that use the Microsoft Windows Mobile OS.

Nokia Launches 3 New Internet-Ready Phones

Nokia introduces three new Internet-ready phones for emerging markets May 18. The 2730, Nokia’s least-expensive 3G phone to date, will begin shipping in the third quarter with a price equivalent to approximately $108, before taxes and subsidies. The clamshell-style 2720 will also ship in the third quarter, for the equivalent of approximately $75. New Generation of Workers Pose Challenges for IT, Analyst Says

As baby boomers retire from the work force, they are being replaced by younger, more tech-savvy employees who have greater expectations for the technology they use for work, says Forrester analyst Ben Gray, who will address the issue at the upcoming Forrester IT Forum conference. Today’s workers are more mobile and they are demanding greater choice in their technology, putting more strain on IT departments that are trying to keep up with those demands.

Economy Delaying IT Projects, Not Canceling: Gartner

Computing projects are being delayed, for the most part, rather than canceled, due to the impact of the economy, Gartner is reporting. Insurance, consumer business services and media are faring best, while discrete manufacturing is suffering the brunt of IT cancellations.

Palm Mini-Pre Smartphone Is Code-Named Pixie, Reports Say

Just as Palm Pre hype has reached a deafening roar, out comes news of a second new Palm mobile and wireless device, code-named Pixie, as well as analyst feedback that Palm is facing hardware and software issues with the Pre and that Sprint doesn’t inspire users to switch carriers.

Nokia N97 Smartphone Goes for the Cool

The N97 will be available for purchase in June. Meanwhile, Nokia has teamed with Aptana to deliver tools for building applications using the Nokia Web Runtime.

As Nokia prepares to launch its Ovi Store mobile application marketplace, the company also is delivering a new mobile device optimized to run applications available on the Ovi Store.

According to Nokia: The Nokia N97 is a S60 5th Edition mobile computer with a large 3.5-inch, bright nHD (640 by 360 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio) TFT color display with resistive touch-screen and tactile feedback. The device provides excellent user experience for Internet and entertainment by combining QWERTY keyboard with touch UI and Home screen functionality.
